book rec: Skinny by Donna Cooner

Donna Cooner wrote a brilliant twist on Cinderella. Loved it. “Cinderella” is Ever, a 15 year old girl who weighs 302 pounds, and she has an imaginary pixie on her shoulder called “Skinny” who tells her she’s worthless. Ever wants to lose weight but “can’t.” She wants to audition for the spring play, but can’t bear the thought of people staring at her on stage. I loved the psychology throughout the book. I loved that the girl always felt like a victim, but by the end she realizes that people haven’t been avoiding her…she’s been pushing them away by assuming they hate her because of her weight. Fabulous YA contemporary with a satisfying ending.

Go forth and read!
